Kentucky's Lexington Herald-Leader has a timely report on whether or not the state should allow electric vehicles (EVs) on state roads.
In an unusual twist on party politics, Republican state senators are the ones urging the Governor Steve Beshear - a Democrat - to sign the executive order.
The order would allow a ZAP electric-vehicle factory to be built and has the potential of employing "up to 1,000 people."
ZAP, as exposed in an excellent report by Wired Magazine (that Ecotravel News wrote about in March) was shown to be greedy charlatans who never delivered their promised cars and bled money from people opening dealerships.
Although EVs are an excellent thing to be approving and signing into law, especially by Republicans, Kentucky should really look into all the facts behind ZAP before making any decisions.

The cars are legal in the US under Federal law as a motorcycle. All Kentucky needs to do is amend the definition of its motorcycles to include enclosed cabs, like gas meter readers all over the country.
ReplyDeletePeople want cleaner cars and need relief from high gas prices. I hope the Governor does the right thing for his voters.
I'm not sure if Wired was aware or not but the writer and his sources conspired to write an attack article about ZAP because they represent at least three seperate competitors to ZAP, none of which have an electric vehicle in production at this time.
ReplyDeleteI stood in our distribution center in Santa Rosa with Randall Sullivan and showed him over 100 ZAP cars and trucks, which have all been sold many times over since he was here about a year ago. He didn't mention that in his article.
